SMO is a service management platform for smart 5G private networks.

SMO(Service Management and Orchestration)manages and optimizes radio access networks(RAN)in O-RAN private networks through various definition frameworks and interfaces, in which includes non-RT RIC, O1 and A1, etc. The purpose of management is to avoid transmission bottlenecks or even disconnections due to Doppler Effects in the unstable radio electromagnetic wave coverage range, and further impacting the OT (Operational Technology)application efficiency. 


In light of this, Inventec’s 5G team invested R&D and testing resources to develop SMO, and cooperated with national universities on specific application cases based on non-RT RIC, and jointly released the Indoor Positioning System(IPS)that combined rAPP and MEC. It can accurately position OT applications that meet the diversity of smart factories, and its system can maintain high stability and outstanding performances while multiple rAPPs are operating simultaneously. This innovative positioning technology is integrated in MEC, and uses AI to perform comprehensive calculations on the inertial data of 5G terminal device movements and information on the electromagnetic waves to continually optimize the precise positions of the terminal devices in 5G private network fields. Its performance evaluation was also tested in the O-RAN OTIC laboratory and performed well. 


The indoor positioning system(IPS)is a solution that provides low latency and precision positioning applications for 5G private network smart factories; for example, mobile devices such as AGV or AMR maintains stable 5G connection through traffic steering to ensure QoS service quality. Another example is the SMR In/Out collaboration that allows the production line management application to be used by Digital Twins backstage management supervisors to plan routes for on-site personnel or contractors to reach the designated location when dispatching work. 


SMO can intellectualize 5G private networks and improve the OT applications that users care about.
